This year marks the second annual driven dirty tour where a bunch of hot rodders driving from the East Coast to Las Vegas, Nevada to the annual SEMA show and then we plan on displaying our cars WITH the road dirt hence “the driven dirty tour”.

Sunday October 21 marked the start of the POSIES Driven Dirty Tour in Cincinnati, Ohio at the homes of Dynamat, Brookville Body and Dayton Wire Wheel (obviously from a few miles up the road). Dutch Fenical from Hummelstown, Pa had corraled the group and started them on the roads south toward Tennessee a few hours late Sunday. The issue was Scott Whitaker’s new roadster had seen three or four all nighters the week before and still was not ready. They left without him. While Scott and crew were busy ironing out some steering issues the rest of the DDT group cruised into Chattanooga about 5 PM Sunday. Coker and Honest hosted the crew to a tour of the Chattanooga facilities and treated them to a dinner with the stars. And you know i will tell you that the cars are the stars so we ate in the car museum.

Monday morning we were up and at em at 730. My daughter Casey and i left Chattanooga with the group in our 37 Shafer 8 Indy car in a steady rain. (Heck, it was raining pitchforks and hammerhandles!) It was apparent to us that the farmers who had been praying for rain clearly got their prayer answered. We drove all day in a constant downpour. Wayne Pugh and Mike Goodman were piloting the Double Exposure duece, built specially for the 06 DDT tour (in 31 days) by Coker/Honest staff.

Priscilla and Tom from California Roadster are driving their 29 Ford Roadster, Posie is driving his new “Speed Queen” Brookville Body roadster pickup, Charlie Schroeder and Gary Buckles of Dayton Wire Wheel are driving a purpose built 37 Ford phaeton that was hotrodded 40 years ago and has been brought up by the Dayton team to a cool ride with just the right pateena. Kenny and Ray Gollahan of Brookville are driving the Brookville 3 window.

You would think that it is a short day to just drive to Memphis from Chattanooga but in a torrential downpour it took us all day. We stopped for lunch at Casey Jones Village in Jackson and cruised on in for a tour of Walker Radiator in downtown Memphis (see video). The famous Sun Records was next door and some of the ladies checked out where Johnny Cash, Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins recorded some of their first music! Vernon Walker Jr showed us the great radiator production Walker has dating back to the 20′s when Vernon Jr’s grand dad started the business.

We left Walker at 430 PM for a 40 minute ride south to visit car legend George Poteet. Funny thing happened on the way to Holly Springs,…i ran out of gas! (see video) I hate running out of gas. Only thing worse is having a flat! Mike and Wayne came to our rescue and brought the Shafer 8 a drink of petrol.

We arrived at George Poteet’s farm to be received by the Memphis Street Rodders and a bunch of “Memphis dry barbeque ribs”! Boy were they fantastic! And so was George’s grounds, collection and hospitality! (see video) We had a blast and met a bunch of new friends! George put us up at a local country club. Man what a guy!

It had absolutely rained on Casey and I ALL DAY and we were ready for a hot shower and the bed! Tomorrow …more cool stuff to see!

From the road,

Corky Coker
