What? No, not like the “Goat ride” the young pledges of the college fraternity get taken on as an initiation thing and I am not advocating taking your local hole digging field rat on an antique car ride either. “Goferide” This is the one word my wonder-dog, “Banjo” reacts to then she immediately sprints to the driver’s door of my 53 F100 farm truck or the Model A roadster we keep at the farm. She then anxiously waits to jump in and go! “Go for a ride!”. She doesn’t realize there are more cars than those that she can goferide in. Some amazing cars from the collector car world is available to Banjo. All I have to do is get them out and say the magic word.

Unlike the New England town of Boston, New York City is not widely known for Chowder (or salsa for that matter…get a rope!), the Big Apple IS definitely known by some as the home of the monthly meeting of the Madison Avenue Sports Car Driving and Chowder Society. Almost fifty years ago this illustrious group came together and foundered… um…. I mean founded in Midtown Manhattan to gather, “chowder down”, and discuss their love of sports cars and all things four-wheeled. Their first meeting was during an extreme cold wave in New York City so the food of choice during their early meetings was Chowder. They’ve held races across NY between Ferraris and Taxi cabs. They are really car guys in the Big City. Now 49 years later these “chowderheads” are prominent automotive afficiandos and automotive journalists as well as still being passionate sports car drivers. Their speakers are often “heads of automotive states”…that’s corkyspeak for the big boys at the OEM’s (car company’s). They have heard from the likes of Jon Moss of GM Performance, John Coletti of Ford SVO, the President of Rolls Royce, Bobby Rahal and Phil Hill, both famous race car drivers, and racing tire guru, Al Speyer of Bridgestone Firestone Tire.

The purveyors of “the secrets of speed” for Model A Fords converged on Chattanooga, Tennessee recently. The local Model A club with some help by Honest Charley Speed Shop and Coker Tire hosted the First Annual Hill Climb. The course was the hill at 6th Street and Market in downtown Chattanooga. Honest and Coker welcomed the hillclimbers to town with a well attended reception Thursday evening at our headquarters in the historic southside of southside of Chattanooga. Friday these FAST A’s toured the Chattanooga area and stopped by to see my folks’ (Harold and Lill Coker) car collection at Coker farm.

General Post and Shows & Swap Meets08 Sep 2006 04:50 pm

Indian Twin on non skids

Coker Tire Company attends over 60 events per year. Yes, SIXTY! That busy show schedule includes swap meets, trade shows, vintage races, hot rod shows, antique military or motorcycle shows. For years, in addition to developing and distributing quality products, we have been committed to going “on the road” so we can show and deliver our products where collectors live, breath n hang out. We also get the opportunity to meet our loyal customers face to face, often see their wonderful vehicles, and get important input about the tires we should be producing or developing. We get an opportunity to solve problems and sometimes we get to find a few parts for our own projects. So.. We do shows. This weekend was an excellent one.
