We finished friday night at the NHRA Museum at the Fairplex in Pomona. Our hotel was right next door so it made it really easy to get cool quickly, get cleaned up and ready to hit the sack. You would be amazed at how filthy we get after being in that open car out in the elements all day long. (more…)

Today is Friday the 13th and we have our final full day of rallying. Bad luck huh? Luck is chance, and pretty doggone arbitrary. I don’t believe it. I choose to believe otherwise that you make your own luck by hard work, and a little prayer and a smile from above. Theresa and I were using all of the above on the last championship day. (more…)

There are not too many places in this world that this old country boy would live other than Tennessee, but i like Flagstaff. Mountains, big lodge pole pine trees, and a great town! It is beautiful there!

We stayed the night at “Little America” hotel. Theresa and i were tired. We are tired every night! It seems every hotel is the same and night only lasts just a couple of hours….but two more rally days! (more…)

Today was one of three Championship Days. Am not really sure what that means this year because the scoring is all different than before…but we knew it was important to get a good score! Every participant pulls a number for start order for Champ days the day before. Theresa pulled 7th car out which means we had to get up early AGAIN for the 730 AM start. Problem is i wake up at 5 AM every stinking day any way EASTERN Time. There’s always lots to do to get ready for the day. Cameron and Greg drew a late number so they got to sleep in. I think they were 56th car out. (more…)

Early, early, dang early start this morning. Up at 5 and on the road. We got our instructions the night before which is really different and did our speedo check down toward Portales, New Mexico. We were second car today behind our friends Jeff Stumb and Robert Dinges from Alabama. The fine folks in Portales cooked pancakes for all us racers. Theresa and i had a banana and coffee. We circled the courthouse on the way out and started rallying. (more…)

Great Race 2007

Normally all the speedo runs when you double check you speedo with the speedo of the rallymaster, John Classen is down the freeway for the first 30 minutes at 50 mph. Today he changed it to 55 mph. It caught a bunch of folks too! Not me! I woke up felling good and convinced we were to have a good LOW score today. (more…)

Sunday morning came sooner than we wanted it to come. Theresa and I both could have used a little more sleep.

Norm Miller is the Chairman of Interstate Batteries and was co founder of the Great Race in 1983. Interstate sponsored our breakfast kicking off our second week of Great Racing and the home stretch into Anaheim. Norm led our chapel service Sunday AM. He spoke about real love and what love really means. The God of the Universe gave His only begotten Son so that we might live if we believe in him. It was pretty cool. Andrew led the closing prayer. (more…)

This is the last day of the Honest Charley Speed Shop Deuce Week East. We had a Pitstop in soomwheresville, Oklahoma (actually Pauls Valley). We had lunch in Ardmore, Oklahoma. Saw a few of our friends from the Michelin plant there. I remember when it was a BFGoodrich plant. (more…)
