We can make it!!!!?….No, wait! We’re too tall! No, wait, I bet we can make it!
Have you ever been driving a hot rod or low slung sports car on a two lane country road having a good time and all of a sudden you come up on a big tractor blocking the middle of the road? A couple of summers ago, my wife and I were Great Race rallying in my Shafer 8 somewhere near Backwoods or Down the holler, Missouri. We were making good time, car was running great and we were “staying on course, staying on time” (that’s Great Race speak for we were doing good!). (more…)
My wife and I attend Woodland Park Baptist Church where we also belong to a small study group led by a buddy of mine. His name is Danny Cooper. Danny has a heart about the size of Tennessee, loves the Lord and works at Komatsu building big trucks. This past Sunday he asked the group to grab five kernels of corn out of a basket and be ready to talk about the five things each person was most thankful for. A number of folks got up and spoke about their salvation, the presence of the Lord in their life, their spouse, their kids, their health and stuff like that. This significance of the five kernels of corn is that the Pilgrims at the first Thanksgiving each had five kernels of corn to represent what they were thankful for during their first winter in the new land. Here is a link to a little thing about that:

My wife didn’t get up in front of the group to speak although she ain’t shy, there simply wasn’t enough time. Later on Sunday afternoon, she related to me that if there would have been time, she would have told the group that she was thankful for “cockroaches”. Sounded like a pretty weird thing to be thankful for I thought, but she went on. She reminded me that she had recently returned from a medical mission trip to El Salvador, Central America. One night the mission team stayed in a rinky dink “roach” hotel in El Salvador that was literally overrun by cockroaches. Although she would probably tell you that having to spend the night in a “roach” hotel is far from what some true missionaries deal with daily. Noting a small suffering on the way to really celebrating your blessings is a good thing. That was my wife’s point is that we are really blessed and should be very thankful. I got it. I have heard it said also that “the wellspring of Thanksgiving is the beginning of the real understanding of Grace.”
Happy Thanksgiving…and I am thankful for each and every one of you too.
The 2007 SEMA Show has now come and gone. It is now Saturday and we are all flying home. Man,… SEMA Show week surely flies by because there are so many people to see, new products to check out, and all the project cars! Man, there are absolutely too many to see! You wouldn’t think that a car guy would ever look past a well done rig (one that someone had spent thousands of hours creating or restoring) but there are just so many! Now it is important to note that the SEMA show is only for people “in the industry”. You gotta have a business that sells, makes or promotes specialty automotive aftermarket stuff. SEMA is the Specialty Equipment Market Association (http://www.sema.org), and is made up of over 6000 member businesses who make the coolest stuff for your vehicle to make it ride lower, higher, faster, cooler, with more style, more lights, and absolutely none of it is necessary BUT we all GOTTA have it! There are so many things I am thankful for, but one of the very most important I thank God for are all the guys and gals who have served (and are now serving) our country, sacrificed much for us, and even given the ultimate sacrifice for us so we can live free in this great republic…the United States of America. Because of that, I encourage us all to say thank you when we see one of our servicemen and women in an airport or just anywhere when they are in uniform. It doesn’t take but just a moment to just say thanks for serving. We need to tell em! (more…)
